A PROFESSOR’S DISCOVERY.

Professor Poe, of Norfolk County, Virginia, claims to have perfected an apparatus which will bring the apparently dead to life, and, what is more, he has secured a capital of .£20,000 for an organisation to exploit his wonderful discovery. This apparatus, which is really a new, improved, and artificial respirator, says Professor Poe, restores vitality by pumping carbonic gas from, and oxygen into, the lungs. Cases of apparent asphyxiation by gas, drowning, or death from overdose of anaesthetics, Professor Poe,says, can be brought back to life, that would otherwise be lost, to say nothing of the plain “drunks ” that can be sobered in jiffey. His experiments, he declares, have been extraordinarily successful. No human being has been resurrected by Professor Poe’s machine, but his friends, according to reports from his Virginian home, say that “dogs given up as dead have been restored.” As regards common “drunks ” the professor has offered to give a demonstration at policestations and elsewhere in the presence of competent medical experts.
