New Plymouth, This Day. . The Taranaki bi-election is causing great excitement. The battle has comnienced. The contest is confined to Messrs Dockrill (Government), Okey (Opposition), and Malone (Independent liberal). Mr Malone spoke to a crowded audience list night, and was accorded a vote of thanks. New Plymouth is,prepared for a hard, steady struggle. The leader of the Opposition, Mr Massey, is travelling in Taranaki delivering addresses at the principal towns. At the conclusion of his tour in this district he will go on to Wellington. It is his intention, if any one of the Ministers take part in the Taranaki election campaign, to return to New Plymouth and assist Mr Okey. The Opposition party is endeavouring to induce Mr Herfies to deliver a speech here before the election.
