ALL SAINTS’ CHURCH.
Annual (Meeting of Parlehonere.
The annual meeting of the above was held in All Saints’ schoolroom on Tuesday evening, the vicar, Rev. G. Woodward presiding. In his report to the parishoners, which was of a most exhaustive nature, the vicar referred to his own appointment and the irreparable loss sustained through the removal of his predecessor, the Rev Mr Wilson. Referring to the Sunday School, mention was made and regret expressed at the resignation of Mrs W. S. Stewart, after officiating as superintendent for 14 years, and the appointment of Mr Adams as Mrs Stewart’s successor. Praise was given jto Mr Betty for his much appreciated services as choirmaster. The vicar hoped soon to hold services in the flaxmills. Services were held at Oroua Downs and Moutoa, and it is possible that Oroua Bridge will be added to the district. The Guild was doing most excellent work. Several improvements to the church and grounds were suggested. Some excellent advice was tendered re finances, and the congregation were congratulated upon possessing such a magnificient organ. He hoped to see the church free from its small indebtedness next year. A word of praise was given to Mrs Chisholm for increasing the subscribers to the ‘‘Church Chronicle ” from 27 to 62. The various church officers were thanked for past services, During the year there had been seven marriages, five burials and 48 baptisms. Some good advice was tendered in reference to the religious life of the parish and the vicar concluded by stating that he belonged to what is known as the “ Advanced or High Church Party,” but that he was true and loyal to the Church of England ; and will introduce nothing in this Parish which is not allowed by the Prayer Book and “ Our Spiritual Father in God. the Bishop of this Diocese.” The Vicar mentioned this to prevent any unpleasantness which may arise from misunderstanding. The vicar thanked them all for the very kind way he had been received and he asked for their devotion, love, sympathy and loyalty; to remember they were not working in the church for the minister nor for the admiration of the people, but for God, to Whom was due all glory, honour and praise. The following officers were elected :—People’s church warden, Mr A. S. Easton; vicar’s warden, MrW. S. Stewart; synodsman, Mr W. S. Stewart; secretary, Mr Morgan ; treasurer, Mr Chisholm ; auditor, Mr A. D. Clemett, vestry, Messrs Jenks, Nye, Frankland, Morgan, Chisholm, Betty, Fraser, Phillips, Beale and Theo. Easton. Votes of thanks were accorded the outgoing officers, Miss Jenks (organist), the ladies. Mrs Stewart (late Sunday school superinteudant), and the Herald. A motion was carried, expressing regret at the loss of the late vicar, and expressing appreciation of his faithful services and wishing him success in his new charge. It was decided to hold a ‘ ‘ working bee ’ ’ to remove trees and clear up the grounds. The ladies supplied refreshments for which they were heartily thanked, and the meeting closed with the Grace.
