ALLEGED BIGAMY AT FOXTON.
Accused Committed for Trial. At a sitting of the S.M. Court at Palmerston, yesterday. Messrs S. Abrahams and T. Manson, J. ’sP., presiding, Richard Daly was charged that, at Foxton on April 19th of last year,, he went through the form of marriage with one Alice Funnel, he being at the time married to another woman. Mr limes appeared for accused The prosecution was conducted by Sergeant Stagpoole, the evidence called being as follows : Adolph Cooper said that he was the son of the informant, Mrs Emily Daly. He well remembered her marriage to accused in the year 1895 at Wellington. They lived together ior about 18 months to his knowledge
Sergeant Stagpoole produced two certified copies of marriage certificates under the hand of the Registrar-General. The first was a marriage between Richard Daly and Emily Cooper at Wellington at January 14th, 1895 ; the second being of one between Richard Daly and Alice Funnel at Foxton, on April 19th, 1906. Alexander Clemett, Registrar of Marriages at Foxton, deposed to performing the ceremony last year. He remembered the parties well. Charles Funnell, father of the second bride, said he was present when his daughter was married to accused.
Accused, after being formally cautioned, reserved his defence, and was committed for trial at the next sittings of the Supreme Court in Palmerston North. Bail was applied for and granted ; self in and one surety in £25
