ANTI-GAMBLING LEGISLATION.
Melbourne, April 10,
The State Acting-Premier (Mr Davies, Attorney-General), commenting on the Judge’s decision on the police application to have the premises known as “ Wren’s Tote” and the City Tattersall’s Club quarantined, under the new anti-gambling law as being gambling places, said it was difficult to imagine what violation of the Act would be sufficient to induce the Judge to grant an order, provided the offenders acknowledged their guilt and promised not to repeat the offence again.
An employee of the Tasmanian Parcels Express Company, who are alleged to be agents for Tattersail’s sweeps, was fined £5, with ten guineas costs, for being found in a common gaming house, viz., the company’s office, which was recently raided by the police.
