Dunedin April ro,

On March 31st a serious assault is alleged to have occurred at Romahapa. Isaac Hurring, a flaxmill owner, is alleged to have assaulted Fredrick Field a labourer, kicking him, attempting to choke him, and dragging him along the railway line tor some distance. Afterwards Hurring is alleged to have fired several shots at Field. He was arrested and brought before Justices of the Peace at Balclutha on Monday and remanded till the nth inst. on a charge of shooting with intent to do bodily harm.

Ijnvercargill, April 10.

C. PL Johnstone, J.P., and a Borough Councillor, was fined £5 at Riverton to-day for having used insulting language to Dr Trotter. Mr McCarthy, S.M., said he would have to report the matter to the Justice Department.
