DEATH OF A WELL-KNOWN SETTLER.
Mr George Gray received a private message from Marton to-day, notifying the death, yesterday, of Mr D. Scott, a very old and highly respected settler and well known throughout this district. It appears that the deceased was engaged in some work on the farm when he collapsed, apparently from heart failure.
Later Particulars. By Telegraph—Special to Herald. Palmerston, This Day. The death of Mr David Scott, one of the best-known men on this coast occurred suddenly yesterday, while he was engaged dipping sheep on his farm, Lower Rangitikei. He was one of the keenest sportsmen in the colony and particularly well known in the Foxton district, where he was highly esteemed and respected by all classes of the community. He was always a great supporter of the Foxton Racing Club and raced on that course for many years. He was also well known as a judge of stock at the A. and P. shows in various parts of the colony.
