ROBBERS IN CENTRAL AFRICA.

Punitive Expedition.

London, March 21

The Tibuks, a tribe of robbers in Central Africa, have recently given trouble, a punitive expedition, comprising upwards of two companies of infantry, was despatched. The expedition was accompanied by Captain Booth, as political officer in Bornu. The infantry, showing smart work, closed Tip the enemies’ waterholes, and then gradually stormed the Tibuks’ stronghold, consisting of piled-up boulders in crevices and caves in which the enemy were concealed. The infantry;—who wore padded coats and blankets were constantly harassed by discharge of poisoned arrows.

The Tibuks’ casualties totalled three hundred. On the British side Lieutenants Chaytor and Thompson were wounded. Eleven infantrymen were killed and forty wounded.
