The overseer reported upon ordinary maintenance work carried out in the Sandon tiding during the mohth, repairs and work done being of the Ordinary detail nature. In |he Mt, : riding good progress, had beeij made with the bridge ofthe Feilding Road', and it will, .be finished in about ten days', had been,: made to .expend on the Mahgaone Road. Usual detail references were made to work car-, ried out in the Rongotea and JKawakawa ridings.. In the latter riding it was reported that the amount of metal placed upon the iilain Drain Road had greatly improved it, and should be sufficient to keep the road in good order during the winter if it were not scoured off or destroyed by heavy traffic. General maintenance work was carried out in the Carnarvon riding. In connection with the Awahou riding the overseer reported that i he had interviewed, Mr Smith with regard to the banking of the Manawatu River at Moutoa. Mr Smith said he would not offer any objection, providing the work was done around, the river, and would also assist with stop-banks, but he would not agree to Mr G. Gower’s scheme to put a stop-bank across Ed ward ’ s property, which would leave the best of. his ; property unprotected at flood time. The treasurer reported upon the finances as follows . —General- account, dr., 4s 11; .loan account, cr., 8d ; ndmg accouts, amounts available for ex-pendituf^tdJfhkrGh-31 st: Waitohi £ 163 9 7d, ■\jVhirokino £8 4 id. Amounts over-expended: Sandon £so 8s 3d, Mt. Stewart £92, Rongotea £B6 10s 4-d, Kawakawa -£385 is gd, Awahou is 4d. n* It was decided; to include pennyroyal and hemlock; in. the second schedule of the Noxious Weeds Act, 1900. The resolution will be confirmed at a meeting of the Council on April 10th. Tenders were accepted for contracts as follows .-—Erecting roadman’s cottage at Himatangi, W. Dick, £Bg ; filling metal into trucks, M. Bilderbeck, is sd per yard;. constructing 38 chains of drain, T, Cordue, 27s per chain. Merchandise carried over the tram last month included —grain tons, merchandise 102 tons, minerals tons, timber 13,168 feet, wool 150 bales, pigs 9 trucks. Fares totalled,.£l2 8s 7d. It was decided to open up McLean’s Road from Jones’ Line to the Longburn - Rongotea Road, and to have all. fences removed from the road. It was also decided to interview Mr Thomson with a view to obtaining his permission to enter upon his land for the purpose of dealing effectively with the drain from the Glen Oroua Dairy Co’s creamery. An offer of 10s per ton from Messrs Grunwald- Bros. for flax growing upon the county roads was declined. Routine business was transacted, and the meeting rose.
