The Manawatu Herald. THURSDAY, MARCH 14, 1907. THE POST OFFICE.

Mr Hutton, Chief Postmaster, visited Foxton on Tuesday and inspected the local ramshackle post office. Like all other officials he was very reticent. But we may be assured that his report to “ headquarters ’ ’ will be favourable to the erection of a totally new 7 building —it couldn’t be otherwise. , The late Premier used to say, jokingly, when electorates returned men of the “ wrong colour ” and they required the spending of public money : “ What sort of a member have you got ? Why didn’t you put a man in of the right colour and you will get all you want.” Surely Mr Stevens has served his party loyally enough. He knows how badly we are in need of a modern post office, and we believe he is doing his best for us. He stigmatised the building as a disgrace and said that if it belonged to a private individual it would be condemned by the Health Department. We would ask Mr Hutton to “ tag ” Mr Steven’s remarks on to his report. Anyhow, everything has been done, so far as Foxton is concerned, to bring the scandalous state of affairs prominently under the notice of the Department ■ — we must now patiently await results.
