SOUTH AFRICA.
GRATEFUL BOERS.
Pretoria, March 12
Mr Louis Botha, Premier of the Transvaal, speaking at a banquet in Pretoria, said the Boers were so deeply grateful to King Edward and the British Government and people for the generous granting of a free Constitution that British interests would be absolutely safe in their hands. They would be zealous for the honour of the flag. Mr Botha declared that he would try to create a united South Africa, and would endeavour by all means to help the mines, while resisting the attempts of powerful corporations to prevent prospecting in the country. It was not intended that the natives should be reduced to a servile state, but rather to encourage them to become useful and contented workers. The Premier announced that he intended to attend the Colonial Conference.
