EASTER ENCAMPMENT.
To be Held at Hlmatanel.
The military autlioritios have decided to hold the Easter military manoeuvres at Himatangi. We think that tlie locality has been wisely chosen. The district is surrounded by flats, hillocks, and patches of scrub eminently adapted for field work. It is fur ahead of the country surrounding Greytown where the encampment was held last year. To-day’s N.Z. Times understands that a good deal of dissatisfaction is expressed among local volunteers in regard to the site selected, on the score of the distance from Wellington and the trouble caused by the necessary transfer at Longburn. It is thought that as good a site as that atHirnitangi could have been secured much nearer Wellington. One prominent officer informed a “ Times ” reporter that, from what he could hear, so many Wellington volunteers had decided not to go that he seriously doubted whether the camp would be held at all. Every year grumblers complain of the locality chosen and raise some foolish point. There need be no transfer at Longburn as the train can come right through to the camp. Tnc training should he the first consideration, and the locality is away from any township, which will preclude certain rowdies from making asses of themselves. As we have said previously the locality is par excellence for the Easter camp and the Commandant is to be commended for choosing such a site.
