GREAT EXPLOSION.
A Dynamite Magazine. In the Hudson River Tunnel. Many Buildings Wrecked. New York, March 4. The explosion of a store of dynamite in the railway tunnel that is being constructed for the Pennsylvania Railroad Company under the Hudson River from New York to New Jersey injured twenty workmen. The shock was felt for a distance of 60 miles. London, March 4. The Daily Mail states that the explosion at New York violently shook the entire area of Greater New York. Onfe Italian was killed. This man dropped some hot ashes on to a case of dynamite, which became ignited. The fire spread to the magazine at the mouth of the tunnel, which contained a hundred tons of explosives. A hundred workmen in the tunnel had a marvellous escape. An enormous hole was torn in the ground. Dozens of buildings were wrecked.
