BOROUGH COUNCIL COMMITTEES.
Wk would suggest that the new Council, when elected, set up a Works Committee to deal with all matters of borough public works and present a report at each regular monthly meeting of the Council, to be discussed, modified or added to —and carried out. In all important boroughs throughout the colony this is recognised as the most important committee, and its report is looked forward to with interest —in fact all important works are dealt with and the roadmen have their work systematically laid out. At present the roadman presents, a brief report referring to trifling matters,.while works of greater importance are overlooked. Two other important committees should also be set up, viz., Lighting and Library. On the latter two subscribers’ representatives are entitled to serve and to be appointed annually by the Council. If the work of the Council was divided up as suggested, * everything would be systematised and a much greater interest iufused into our municipal life. It is the duty of the Mayor at every regular monthly meeting to call for a report from each committee. We hope to see the new council, when elected, divide up the work in the manner suggested.
