The Albany State Supreme Court has decided, by a majority of four to three, that Perkins, one of the officers of the New York Life Assurance Society, was not guilty of larceny in subscribing to the Republican party’s 'election fund out of the society’s resources. The Court found there was an absence of criminal intent. Melbourne, Feb. 28. The writs for the State elections have been issued. Polling day is fixed for March 15th. There was spirited competition at the hide sales. Prices are unchanged—in favour of sellers. Sydney, Feb. 28.

The men Manning and Christie, who were arrested in connection with the robbery of money from the steamer Navua, were before the Water Police Court to-day. Detective Walker stated that owing to Tack of instructions from the the,Auckland police he had no evidence to offer, and accused were discharged. They subsequently left for Auckland.

All but eleven of the imprisoned members of the crew, of the Sonoma, who struck work at the end of January on account of the employment of a fireman not belonging to their union, have heen released. The men detained are charged with being prohibited immigrants. Later.
