RACING.

The Shannon R.C. Annual Meeting. By our Special. The weather yesterday was splendid for the 1907 gathering of the racing folk of Shannon. The racing itself, was fair, but numerous protests after several of the events robbed the outing of much enjoyment, and unless the officials deal more promptly with disputes of this nature, I fear the once promis-

ing club will have few more meetings at the Manawatu Line township: It was common talk on the course that the Local Race was arranged for one horse to win, and certainly any sport with a particle of common sense that viewed the race must lend a listening ear to the report, as the horseman who rode Kissmere made things so noticeable. A demonstration against Kissmere was the result, and necessarily an inquiry, which resulted first in the disqualification of Kissmere for the race, and caution to owner and rider, and then by the Stewards declaring the event no race as none of the horsemen who'had ridden in the event were eligible to ride. Again, when Detonator won, objection was raised against the trainer being disqualified, but the Stewards decided against the objection. Kai Errin won a double for the popular Billy Walden, while Alf. Wright’s horseman, Charley Price, was the most successful rider, piloting no, less than four winners during the day. Mr W. Howan’s Lady Disdain, whom I believe was well supported, failed badly in her events. But she should improve. The officials were courteous, whilst the press representatives present and Mr Angus Keith considerably aided the Secretary in the operation ot his duties. Luncheon and refreshment booths were well patronised, but the absence of the band was noticeable. Results: —
