SLAUGHTERMEN’S STRIKE.
As the result of a conterence on Saturday between the representatives of the slaughtermen on strike and the Gear Company, it was agreed that the men should resume work at S o’clock yesterday morning. The men will be paid 23s per 100 for slaughtering. The agreement does not include the Wellington Meat Export Company. Wellington, Feb, 18. The Gear Company’s slaughtermen resumed this morning and 20 extra hands, most of them Wellington Meat Export- Company’s employees, were taken on. The Meat Export Co., so far has not conceded the 23s demanded by its men, and the men continue on strike. Timaru, Feb. rB. The butchers at Pareora Freezing Works resumed work this morning. There was a full board of temporary slaughtermen, assistants having been obtained. The butchers ’ assistants, who went out on strike, are still standing out with one exception, who took the place of one of the temporary asssstants shortly after work resumed this morning.
