The Manawatu Herald. SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 16, 1907 THE POUNDKEEPER.
Our attention has been drawn to the methods adopted by the borough poundkeeper in dealing with impounded stock, and we suggest the Borough Council make investigation in reference to same. There is an act for the guidance of this officer, and it is his duty to be conversant with it. We would point out tor his future guidance that whenever stock isimpounded he must immediately communicate with the owner, if known, or, if the owner is not known, he must advertise in one or more papers circulating in the district. He has failed to do this on more than one occasion, and has thus caused considerable inconvenience to owners. It is alleged, also, that stock has been neglected. We are compelled to lay these charges before the Council, with a view to that body making searching enquiries into the conduct of the
poundkeeper, as we think it is about time some action was taken.
