“MAKING” LIFE.
French Scientist’s Remarkable Demonstrations.
Professor Deduc, the famous scientist of Nantes, performed some extraordinary experiments in “making” lite before the Paris Society of Surgeons. He placed in a tube containing gelatine and a small quanity of cyanide of iron, of potassium, and of salt ; some grains composed qf sulphate of copper and ot sugarglobules having a diameter of less than one twenty-fifth of an inch. These grains commenced to germinate. Some pushed forth tiny branches with leaves having the appearance of the water-lily. Others showed a blade-like formation resembling wheat, and others, again, took on the shape of seaweed. M. Eeduc explained that these plants lacked only the faculty of reproducing their species.
