WATER SCHEME.

Thk Borough Council is to be commended for 1 its action last night in refusing the offer of an anonymous company, through Mr Toms, to supply the borough with water for domestic purposes at a cost of ,£SOOO. The particulars submitted were crude, and of such a nature as to be totally inadequate and of the white elephant order. The town requires . a comprehensive scheme to provide for fire prevention, sewerage and domestic purposes, -and it’s simply a waste , of time to tinker with this vital question by submitting such proposals. The suggestions proffered by Mr Nye, a thoroughly practical man, as published by us some time since, appear to be the most feasible yet .brought,.forward. • We are now assured that the Council as a whole realise the burning necessity of a thoroughly comprehensive scheme and will lose no time in bringing this important matter to a head.
