DEATH UNDER CHLOROFORM.

Napier, January 24. To-day, a young married woman, Mrs Mary Simmonds. of Maraekakaho, died while under chloroform, which had been administered in order that some teeth should be extracted. Chloroform was administered by Dr Moore, who had previously examined deceased and found her perfectly sound. After four teeth had been extracted the patient gave signs of reviving, and was again put under the anaesthetic. On the second application, which was slight, deceased suddenly collapsed from what was evidently heart failure Mrs Simmonds was accompanied by her mother, Mrs Williams, who states that her daughter appeared to be in perfectly good health. Deceased was twenty-six years of age, and leaves three young children. Her husband is a carrier in the Maraekaho district.
