In Taranaki for 242 acres there were 184 applicants ; 112 applicants for another section, area not stated, and 124 applicants sought a 512 acre section. In the Wellington district a 700 acre block brought 302 laud seekers, while 274 applied tor an 800 acre section ; there were 285 applicants for a block of 815 acres, and 416 for 374 acre section. In Marlborough a 5000 acre block induced 251 to apply; and 272 applied for a 2000 acre section. In Westland, 3000 acres were responsible for 203 ' applications ; a 294 acre block was £ sought |by 194 applicants. He quoted these as instances of the land demand.
