Gisborne, January 15. Graham Higgins aged about nine, son of Braidwood Higgins, was drowned in the Waimata river at 6 this evening while bathing. His brother was saved when sinking far the last time, and had evidently been making efforts at rescue. Auckland, January 16. The police have received word that Andrew Peters, postmaster at Kaiawa, has shot himself. ; Taihape, January 14. News has just been received ofa fatal accident which occurred at Sowerby’s mill, about three miles south of Taihape, on Monday afternoon. No particulars have been received yet, further than that a man was killed by a Ibg rolling on him. The unfortunate man, whose name is unknown, was a stranger here, and had only started work that morning. Eltham, January 15. The recent drought has scarcely affected the dairy industry in this district, as shown by the fact that Eltham Dairy Company will pay suppliers ,£10,640 for December, an increase of £753 compared with December, 1905. Christchurch, Jan. 15. The Hon. R' McNab, Minister of Lands, addressed a crowded meeting in His Majesty’s Theatre last night and explained the land proposals of the Government as embodied in the Land'Bill. . At the close of the meeting; a motion was adopted conveying a hearty vote of thanks to Mr McNab, for his address and expressing confidence in the Ward Government. An amendment in favour of laud nationalisation was rejected.
