A JEALOUS MAORI.
Shoots Three Persons.
Then Commits Suicide.
Auckland, Dec. i 6. . The Kaikohe Correspondent 6t the Star telegraphs as follows in regard to the shooting cases reported on Saturday
At a settlement near Kalkohe, Bay of Islands, last night, Hirini Kaihai Taui, a native of Tautoro, shot Mrs Peneha Kingi, wife b| the native ccgi stable at Kaikohe; also her sen, 14 years old. The woman'died shortly afterwards. The son is in a critical condition.
The cause of the crime was jealousy. Taui, it is said, intended shooting his own wife, who was in the house with Mrs Kingi. Four shots were fired, the first wounding the woman' and the second her son. The other two had no effect.
Constables Cahill and King arc .in pursuit of Taui. He was last seen by a native named Waa on the road to Kaikou with a gun slung ■ across his shoulder. He informed Waa that he intended finishing his mission. He said Waa would find papers and’ a will in a. certain place, and asked him to carry out the instructions' contained therein. . , Later. Tirini Taui, after shooting Marata Penaha dead, and seriously injuring her son, committed another murder on Saturday afternoon, the .victim being a Maori named Here wine |foae.
