The Foxtou Lawn Tennis Club has started a series of tournaments for trophies and the following are the handicaps and drawings;— Gents Singles. Reade jo, Petersen 25, Gordon 10, byes; Baiubridge 5, v. Ross 25; Marshall 5 behind, v. Fraser 20; Macdonald 5, v. Shadbolt 15: Stiles 10, v. Chisholm 5 ; Morgan 10, v. Edwards 10. Ladies Singles. Miss McMillian 15, v. Miss A. Collins 20; Miss Wanklyn 5 behind, v. Miss Edwards 15; Miss Ross 25, v. P. Fraser 15; Miss H. Collins 5, v. Miss O. Fraser 20. Combined Doubles. Petersen and Miss A. Collins 22, v. Fraser and Miss Edwards 15; Macdonald and Mrs Chisholm 12, v. Chisholm and Miss 0. Fraser 12; Gordon and Miss McMillian 12, v. Morgan and Miss H. Collins 9; 1 Baiubridge and Miss P Fraser 12, |v. Marshall and Miss Wanklyn 5 {behind. The games are to be 50 points.
j A committee meeting of the local tennis club was held in the Herald office yesterday afternoon to consider the resignation of the Secretary. There was a full attendance and. Mr Cleraett presided. The Secretary explained that he intended to resign as a protest against the conduct of one or two members in questioning the right of the Management Committee to control all games on the court. He stated that the novices should be given an opportunity of playing with more skilled members on Wednesday and Saturday afternoons. As a member of the match committee he desired fair play. It was explained that those who had transgressed were not acquainted with the rules. Mr Morgan consented to pressure of the committee to hold over his resignation. The following resolution was carried with one dissentient: “That the action of the member of the match conmittee in controlling and arranging games on Wednesday 12th Dec. be upheld.” The meeting then rose.
