FRENCH SWINDLERS.
Paeis, Dec. 1.
The relatives of a merchant named Jefquiries have informed the police that he mysteriously disappeared in 1903, after advancing 8800 francs (£150) to M. Ccbron and Marie Pesnel, who were arrested some days ago on a charge- of - victimising a Canadian doctor named Herbert to the extent of £3BO.
It is now alleged that Marie Pesnel has been associated with Cebron in extensive swindles in connection with a matrimonial agency. M. Jcfquiries’ money was advanced in connection with a sterilised milk scheme organised by Pesnel prior to her entry into the matrimonial agency business. Dr Herbert, who is recovering from injuries inflicted upon him by Cehron, declares that Marie Pesnel once asked him to write a cheque, remarking that she “ wished to learn how to draw a cheque.” He is now convinced that Cebron and Pesnel intended to murder him, and then forge his name with a view to withdrawing a sum' of £2OOO from his banking account.
