DROWNING FATALITY.

Rotoktja, Dec. 2.

A sad drowning fatality occurred in Lake Rotokakahi this morning at II o’clock. William Seely and Alexander Smith went out in a small boat. They discovered the boat was leaking *Tery much, and it became swamped. Both men clung to it for some time, aid then Seeley left the boat and struck out for the shore. Ho swam well for about a chain, and then suddenly disappeared. Smith stuck to the boat and eventually reached shore greatly exhausted. Mrs Smith witnessed the sad occurrence from shore, and she was the only person present. The boat was only about 200 yards from the shore when it sank. Gloom has been cast over the town by the occurrence. Seeley was a highljr respected townsman, and took great interest in alj sports. He was secretary of the football and bowling clubs. He leaves a widow and child.
