ARBITRATION FINES
Wanganui, Nov, 26,
At the Arbitration Court to-day a b iker named Cutelli was fined £lO for falsifying his books to make it appear that an employee named Hope was receiving the award wage. £2 10s ; wit ere as he was receiving only £2 5s per week. Hope was also fined. Various other tradesmen were fined different amounts for breaches, SIR JOHN GORST. On leaving Wellington yesterday morning for Wanganui, on his way to the Hot Likes and Waikato, Sir John Gorst, the British Government representative at the Exhibition, was farewelled by the Premier on behalf of the State. He will leave Auckland en route for Horae. Captain Percy Atkin accompanies Sir John on his Waikato trip.
THE CONFIDENCE TRICK. Dunedin, Nov. 26
A man named William Booth was committed for trial to-day on a charge of stealing a gold chain and pendant from another man. The victim had “shouted” lor Booth and his mate, and they sought to entice him into a back street. They then endeavoured to induce the man to “shout ’’ them supper, and on his declining Booth is alleged to have snatched at the watch chain, getting away with the latter.
