The Ministry.

DU, FINDLAY APPOINTED ATTORNEY-GEN KR AL. SIR JOSEPH WARD DEFENCE MINISTER. Wellington, To-Day. Last evening Dr Findlay was sworn in as a member of the Legislative Council and also as AttorneyGeneral and Colonial Secretary. The position as member of the Executive in the legislative Council carries with it the leadership of that Chamber. Sir Joseph Ward has undertaken the portfolio of Minister of Defence. To enable, him to do this, he resigned charge of tire Department of Industries and Commerce, which has been allotted to the Hon. J. McGowan. A lawyer was necessary to fill the position of Attorney - General, but there was no lawyer in the Upper House and no member of the Ministry capable of taking the position. Dr Findlay has for many years been an active supporter of the Liberal Party. Ho is a good speaker and debater and should prove of considerable strength to the Ministry.
