THE PAPAKAIO MURDER.
Dunedin, Nov. 30.
At the Supreme Court this morning the Crown Prosecutor made application for an adjournment of the trial of Findlay, charged with the Papakaio murder, till the Oamaru sittings on oth February, owing to the absence through illness of three necessary witnesses. Counsel said if would greatly facilitate the trial if the case were heard at Oamaru.
Mr Hanlon, for the prisoner, opposed the application, but offered no objection to an adjournment for a fortnight, until the witnesses were well. He contended that a change of venue should only be granted where it would be in the interests of justice. Mr Justice Cooper fixed the hearing for 17th December. If circumstances justified a further adjournment, the application could be renewed by the Crown. He declined to sanction the application for change of trial to Oamaru, seeing that the prisoner objected
