SANITARY AND LIGHTING QUESTIONS.
Correspondence was read at last night’s Council meeting that the lightsoil contractor had not attended to his work for six weeks, at the par :icular place mentioned. Cr Austin further testified to the alleged negligence on the part of the nightsoil contractor. Cr. •Cray intimated that he had been informed that the contractor had been subjected to considerable annoyance, pans being removed and in other ways inconvenienced.—On the motion of Cr. Gray, seconded by Cr. Austin, it was decided to erect a shed in the pound reserve for the use of the contractor.—Cr Baker proposed and Cr Coley se. conded that the nightsoil contractor be instructed to attend to his duties in a more thorough manner as numerous complaints are made about him neglecting his nightly calls.—Carried.
The negligence of the lamplighter was also . severely commented on. Cr Austin stated that ‘‘ there was not a light in the borough,” while Cr Coley was most emphatic in his condemnation of a certain lamp in Jonsonstreet declaring it to be neither of use or ornament- No action taken.
