BOATING ITEMS.

[By Outrigger.)

There was a large number of enthusiasts arid spectators on Sunday morning to see the launching of the ‘ ‘ Old Dolly Varden. ’ ’ The crew went away remarkably well and were unanimous in the opinion that it was only one of the many enjoyable spins which they were likely to have in her. Marsh had his crew out recently and his bow is shaping very well. Marsh, however, is still rowing too deep. Petersen and Murray appear to shape fairly well. The former does not quite get the full benefit of his slide as soon as he catches the water —returning too quick. More practice should overcome that.

Gardner and Shields went along very nicely for a short spin. Shields seems to be improving fast since I last saw him out. Gardner appears to lack power—not enough practice. Several new colts were out recently in the tubs. Marsh had a new colt out yesterday and appeared to be doing very well. The bad 'habit of watching the bank narrowly accounted for a ‘ ‘ sugar doodle ’ ’ opposite the mills.
