SCHOOL COMMITTEE.
A meeting of the above was held last Thursday. Present—Messrs Clemmett (chairman), Rev. Wilson, Barnard, Betty, Frankland, G. Coley, Gray and t,. W. Wilson (secretary).
The headmaster’s report was read, and it was resolved to attend to the girls swing. Messrs Coley and Gray were deputed to arrange re new cricket pitch. Mr Gray mentioned that £2 10s had already been subscribed for thispurpose. Resolved that a squad from the local school cadets be sent to compete at the forthcoming Manawatu Rifle Association’s meeting, the headmaster to arrange with the squad re the necessary subscription and that parents be circularised re same.
The head-master had replaced the windows broken in the new school, and it was resolved to ask him to forward an account to the committee for same.
Re the large number of exemptions asked for by parents, it was decided in future to grant exemptions only when it was absolutely necessary.
Messrs Frankland, Gray, Austin, Coley and the Secretary were appointed a committee to modify the conditions in Mr Stevens prize essays, and Mr Stevens be communicated with to that effect.
Mr Berthold was granted the use of a room at the old school for music teaching purposes at a rental of £1 per quarter, subject to certain conditions. It was resolved to make inquiries re insuring the old building.
It was decided to meet in future on the second Thursday in each month.
The meeting then rose.
