THE PRICE OF LAND.

Sir—Your correspondent “AntiBoom,” has only gone half way in his suggestion of a remedy to make the holders of land come down in price. I would suggest that after the holders’ valuation is fixed at their own value to have the small improved holders petition the Council with a view of having a poll taken on the unimproved value. I have for a long time wondered why they have stood the brunt of enhancing the speculators land. As it is now, a man with a small portion of cash builds a house, the valuer comes along and taxes him for spending money for building himself a home. I say ” rise, small man and make the speculator (or holder) pay his fair share of the rates.” Yours, etc., Anti-Boom No. 2.
