RAILWAY EMPLOYEES IN TROUBLE.

Pilfering at Palmarston. Pa lmerston , Y esterday. At the S.M- Court this morning Arthur Cattrick, William Bensen and Frank Fulton were charged, on' the information ot the police, with larceny of a box of soap,' valued at 12s, the property of the New Zealand Government. Cattrick pleaded guilty to the charge, and the remaining two not guilty. Benson was acquitted, Cattrick and Fulton were each convicted. Counsel for each applied for probation. Mr Fitzherbert, on behalf of the Department, said that he had no objection to probation being granted. The departments chief desire was to stop the pilfering, and having done that, they were satisfied. Tfie SIM. addressing Cattrick said ■it was with reluctance ‘die granted probation and it was, only, on account of family reasons. He had not only committed a . prime but had involved others with him. The S.M. pointed out the seripus.ness of the offence particularly .in one of the positions of the accused. Both the accused were admitted po < probation for six months and, ordered to pay, the costs of the prosecution, £\ 13si -between them.
