GARDEN PARTY AT CARNARVON.

r __—* The garden party tendered to Mr and Mrs Speirs last Saturday ■ by the members and adherents of the Carnarvon Presbyterian church was held in the beautiful garden surrounding the residence of Mr R, JC McKenzie. The weather was all that could be desired and there were about fifty persons present to do honour to tire guests. Croquet and other games were played on the lawn which is surrounded by ■ flowers and ornamental trees. Alter tea and, cakes- had been handed round short speeches were made on behalf of those present by Messrs R. B. McKenzie and Rochel testifying to the esteem in which Mr and Mrs Speirs are held, and of the good work done by them during their stay in the district. They concluded by. wishing the guests all prosperity in the future. , Mr Speirs,- in. replying, made feeling' i reference, to parting with them and assured them that it had always been a pleasure to labour in their midst. On behalf of Mrs Speirs and himself he thanked them for their great hospitality and, kindly expressions of good wishes. Before the gathering broke up a hearty vote of thanks was accorded to Mr and Mrs McKenzie for the use of the grounds.
