[Continued from last issue.] RESOLUTIONS. That Mr E. Piggot’s tender of for right to work the Shannon Ferry and collect tolls, in accordance with schedule “B” in the conditions, be accepted. That Mr Purnell’s resignation be accepted with regret after the end of the financial year, viz, 31st March, 1907; but be granted leave of absence from 15th January if a successor has been appointed, and that this Council desires to place on record its high appreciation cf the services he has rendered to the County during the term pf. his engagement, and hopes that.iu.jthe new sphere to be entered upon he will have a long and successful career. That applications be called for the position of Clerk, Treasurer and Rate-collector of the Council, at per annum, with a rise of a year up to Applications to be in by 28th November. Cr. Masters was appointed to represent the County on the Fielding Technical School Committee. Several alterations were made in the rate roll. That tenders be called for forming and inetalling twenty-one chains of Foxton-Shannon road deviation. A somewhat animated debate took place regarding the speed at which some motor-cars are driven. One Councillor considered that a certain speed should be allowed, and every driver exceeding that rate should be broughtlbefore the Court. He was also opposed to holding cycle races on the road. It was resolved that an advertisment be put in the Fielding, Marton and Foxton papers cautioning drivers of motor-cars driving their • 1 cars at a greater rate than 20 miles an hour through the Manawatu County, and that greater care be taken in going round corners.
