FIRE.

Shortly after u o’clock last night a seven-roomed house situated in Duncan St., owned and ocri pied by Mr R. Wilson, together with its contents were totally destroyed by fire. There was no one in the house at the time, Mr Wilson being away at Rongotea and Mrs Wilson and the children were stopping at Mr Wilson’s, senr. for the night. Mr Wilson senr. was the last person in the house in the evening. He struck no light and everything was apparently safe. Mr 0, Austin was the first person to notice the blaze and he lost no time in getting on the scene. He was under the impression that the inmates were in the burning building and his strenuous efforts deserve the utmost commendation. Willing helpers were soon on the spot, but as there was no chance of saving the burning pile their efforts were centred on saving the new structure which is being, erected a few feet from the building destroyed. I/uckily there was no wind blowing otherwise the new building would have been razed. Nothing was saved and Mr Wilson lias lost not only the whole of the furniture, etc., but certain home treasures that money can never replace. There was only a risk of on the building and its contents. The origin of the fire is a nn-stery.
