The Maj r or will officially open the local tennis courts to-morrow-Extensive alterations are made in this issue to Mr Rae-Howard’s properties. The local stores will be closed all day to-morrow in recognitiop of Labour Day. The public are notified that the local branch of the Bank of New Zealand have removed into their new premises. Messrs Sutherland and Rough have a notice Board astride their premises displaying numerous properties and articles for sale; They make important additions to their advertisement to-day.

Messrs Moffat and Co. land agents, have now opened the ir office in Foxton, and will in a few days issue their list of properties for sale through the columns of the Herald.

Mr M. H. Walker grocer, etc. notifies that he has been appointed agent for Thornley’s specialities for all who keep horses, cattle, sheep, pigs or poultry. Cr Shadbolt at last night’s Council meeting took exception to the Clerk putting a plate on the Council Chambers announcing the name of an insurance company he is representing. The clerk explained that if the Council was prepared to pay him a salary equivalent to what Town Clerks received in Boroughs of a like population to Foxton, he would give up the agencies. But he could certainly not live on the present salary without supplementary work.

A special meeting of the Flaxmills Employees Union was held last night when it was decided to have the claims printed locally at once and have them posted to the I employers. The secretary reported that the members ate responding to the calls splendidly and the financial position of the Union is all that could be desired. The membership is 530 and new members are being enrolled daily. The secretary stated that keen interest is being shown by the country members. At a meeting of the Sub-Union held at Messrs Sutherland and Rough’s premises this morning 1 (MrH. Austin in the chair) it was ! decided that the junior cup final be j played at Foxton racecourse at 1.45 to-morrow afternoon. The' appointment of referee was left to | the secretary to arrange. The Albion Club undertook to provide dinner at the Mauavvatu Hotel for the visitors, while the Sub-Union decided they should be granted all gate money over and above expenses. |
