PARLIAMENT.

The Land Bill was fu.ther considered by the Lands Committee on Tuesday, but not finally dealt with. Another sitting of the committee was held yesterday. A bill proposing a number of amendments in the Local Bodies’ Loans Act has been introduced. The bill contains various amendments regarding the provisions as to special rolls, investment of sinking funds, proceedings for raising loans, etc. The bill also provides that in any case where land liable to any special rate is required by the Crown, the Crown shall be liable for payment of such rate for any year during which there is no occupier ot the land within the meaning of the Rating Act, 1894. This will get over the difficulty in regard to loss of revenue by boroughs in coses where land is taken by the Government for workmen’s homes. The question cropped up at Petone recently. The Town Districts Bill was committed, and amended by limiting the scope of the measure to populations of ‘ ‘ not less than 500.
