LIONEL TERRY.
Hls Recapture. Christchurch, Yesterday. Lionel Terry, who escaped from the Sunnyside Asylum and was recaptured last night, has been brought to Christchurch. He says he prefers gaol to the madhouse. He had no money with him when he escaped, and denies that he had any assistance. Hunger drove him to the Springfield Hotel, where he hoped some-, one would take pity and give him some food.
Reporting the escape of Terry from Sunnyside Mental Hospital, the Lyttelton Times says it appears since his commitment to the institute Terry’s conduct had been exemplary, and he had been regarded as the inmate most to be trusted; indeed, he was said to have prevented several escapes and had been a free agent within the usual bounds.
