High Commissioner’s Report. ' Wellington, This Day. The Department of Industries and Commerce has received the following cable from the High Commissioner, dated London, September 22nd : There are signs of improvement in the mutton market. A great scarcity exists of light weights. Holders are not anxious to sell. Canterbury mutton is quoted at 3%d, light weights The price of North Island mutton is to according'to weight. A good demand exists for all lamb, considering the late season. The prices quoted are q-Hid for light weights and 4/4d for heavy weights. The stocks of New Zealand beef on band are light and the market is firm. The average price is and aid for hind and forequarters respectively. The butter market is very firm. Choice N.Z. is quoted at Ix7s, Danish at 1265, Canadian 115 s, and Siberian 106 s per cwt. A better demand exists for cheese. Canadian is quoted at 62s per cwt. The hemp market is firm and there is a general active demand ; on spot is quoted at ,£34 xos per per ton ; October-Deceraber shipments, similar price. Fair current Manila on spot is worth ,£4l per ton. The cocksfoot seed market is quiet, and buyers are not keen on I business. Fright clean xylb j dres ed seed is at 44s per cwt.
