CHARGE OF MANSLAUGHTER.

Against a Chemist. Dunedin, September 21. James R, Hayne, a well-known Aemist, has been arrested for the nanslaughter of Margaret Kendrick, single aged thirty-five. The arrest of Hayne caused some sensation. Hayne was brought up before Mr C. C. Graham, S.M. The detective asked for a remand as there had been no time to make inquiries. He had been instructed to oppose bail. Accused had on him a loaded revolver when arrested. Mr Solomon, who appeared for Hayne, quoted authorities to show that bail should be granted. The Magistrate declined to take the responsibility of granting bail and accused was remanded till next Saturday.
