THE LOAN PROPOSAL.
Sir, —l notice that a poll is to be taken for raising a loan for the erection of a gas works for the borough. What information has the Borough Council given to the ratepayers about the proposal? Has any expert come along and furnished the Council with the necessary data? If so, why haven't the ratepayers been informed of it ? How does our enlightened council know whether it will requre ,£7OOO for the construction of this work ? Have they told the ratepayers what the gas is to cost per xooo feet ? Is the whole proposal a farce for the purpose of playing into the hands of the Palmerston Gas Company? Personally, I don’t think Councillors are in earnest over the proposals and I hope ratepayers will wake up before polling day.— Thanking you in anticipation, I am, etc., Ratepayer.
