DAILY TRAM TO PUKENUI.

A MOST important proposal was introduced at Wednesday’s meeting of the Manawatn County Council by Cr McKenzie, viz., to run a daily tram service from Foxton to Pukenui. This question is of vital importance to Foxton, which we are sorry to say is allowing much of its trade to drift to other centres. It is also most unfortunate that we were unable to send a representative to this meeting to hear the matter discussed. Cr McKenzie, we are informed, spoke at considerable length in support of the proposal, and his motion to give the service a six months’ trial was lost on the casting vote of the chairman. Cr McKenzie has, however, given notice to again bring on the matter for discussion at next meeting, and we hope he will be supported by a strong deputation of Foxton business men.
