Sub-Union Sports.

♦ The weather was perfect yesterday afternoon for the Sub-Union lootball sports, and consequently a fair attendance was recorded at the racecourse, including many ol the fair sex. The different events were won by : Rnnning with the Ball. —Bert. Shadbolt. Mr H. Austin’s medal. 220 Yards. —Bert Shadbolt. Mr Nash’s trophy. Place-kicking.—W. Coley. Mr J. Gillespie’s medal. Drop-kicking, —W. McLean. Mr Shaclbolt's medal. Schoolboys Place-kick.—-Master S. Reeves. Mr Guy’s trophy. Senior seven-a-side.— Awahou A team: J. Joe, S. Wright, W. Coley, W. Lambert, F. Spiers, B. Shadbolt, J, Reid. Mr A. Laing’s medals. Junior seven-a-side. —Albion A team : G. Rimmer, K. Furrie, F. Whibley, M. Cook, J. Williams, C. Edwards, J. Walker. Mr L. Wilson’s medals. Schoolboys seven-a-side.—San-don school team. Mr W. Howan’s medals. All these trophies, together with the G. Coley Cup to Sandon Club (winners of senior championship) and the Watchorn, Stiles Cup to Awahou Club (senior runners-up) were presented to the winners at the concert by His Worship the Mayor (B. G. Gower, Esq.). The Austin Banner had not arrived, and therefore could not be presented, while the E. Coley Cup has not yet been decided. Messrs A. Laing, 0. Austin, E. Nash and Scott-Wilson acted as judges in the novelty events, while Messrs F. Robinson, J. Frew, and E. Nash acted as referees in the football events. Mr A. Shadbolt acted as starter in the running events. THE CONCERT. In the evening, an appreciative audience greeted the minstrel performers at the Foxton Public Hall, Items were provided by : —Orchestral items, by a local band ; comic songs, Bob Grace and Bert Shadbolt; sentimental solos, Messrs J. Pickering and J. Middleton ; coon songs, E. SuthtyF’nd ; recitation, Mr Horn blow ; ajk stling solos and bird imitatftm? Mr Bert Ingram; female impersonation, Mr J. Middleton, sailor’s hornpipe, Mr G. Bowater. All these items received much applause, also the opening and other choruses. The accompaniments’ were played by Misses May Laing and Murphy, and Messrs J. Middleton, B. Shadbolt and F*ley. The sketches provoked much laughter. The Foxton Borough Brass Band played selections outside the hall prior to the commencement. During the interval, the secretary, on behalf of the Sub-Union, thanked the audience for their attendance and kindly appreciation of the performers efforts, also the performers themselves, and especially the trophy donors for the interest they took in thus aiding the authorities to cater for the sport. An error ocurred in the presentation of ■ medals last evenixig, whereby the junior seven-a-side winners became possessed of the senior seven-a-side medals, and vice versa. Therefore, the winning Albion and Awahou members are requested to return these trophies to the Sub-Union secretary, who will change them.
