The Lighting Question.
» » At last night’s Borough Council meeting a letter was received from Messrs Turnbull and Jones, electrical engineers, Wellington, re lighting the Borough with electricity, and suggesting that the Council instal as an alternative to water power, a producer gas amd a suction gas engine plant. Ihis power could be produced at one penny per brake horse power pei hour for fuel. The letter, also stated that a 50 h.p. gas plan: would suffice giving 500 lamps 0. 16 c.p., as a maximum distribution load. The firm asked to be supplied with a plan showing the streets and area of the borough proposed to be served, and an estimate of cost for complete erection would be supplied. The firm stated in conclusion that they are the largest Electric Co., in New Zealand and have a better knowledge than any other firm in matters of town lighting.—No action was taken by the Council.
