The Manawatu Herald. SATURDAY, SEPT 8, 1906. NOTES AND COMMENTS.
A controversy is going on in the Wairarapa News as to the best breeds of milking cows, the details given below show what can be done with good cows, well kept and kindly treated. The owner is a farmer at Park vale. He milks ten cows of Shorthorn cross and Jersey cross. Even though the herd did not come in fully till the middle of November, these ten cows gave for the factory 72, i3Blbs of milk, averaging each. The factory average for each cow was 3051bs of butter fat, equal to 3561bs of butter. With butter fat at is ojzd, each cow earned for whey and calves, the total per cow is brought to £l6 13 2d. This record is a splendid one. Many of our farmers could go to school to this man.
