*THE HIGH COMMISSIONER’S REPORT.
Wellington, Phis Day. The Department of Industries and Commerce has received the following cable from the High Commissioner under date London, September Ist : The mutton market is dull at last quotations. The lamb, market is weak and forced selling still continues. Canterbury brand is quoted at 4 3-8 d and 4£d ; other than Canterbury is selling at 4£d and 4 3-Bd. The beef market is steady at 3 3-8 d and 23-8 d for hind and forequarters respectively. Choice N.Z. butter is steady at 112 s and lids per cwt. Danish is quiet at 1225. Canadian makes are quoted at Ills per cwt. The cheese market is firm and a good demand is experienced. Canadian is quoted at 62s per cwt. There are no stocks of New Zealand on hand. The hemp market is quiet but steady. Wellington, on spot, is quoted at £33 10s or £34 per ton. The same quotation applies to October-December shipments. The price of fair current Manila, on spot to-day, is £4! 10s per ton. Cocksfoot seed—The market is dull. The price of bright clean seed, 171bs to the bushel, is nominally quotied at 45s per bushel. The wool market is steady, and the consumption large. Current quotations : Bradford, top--36’s, low crossbreds, Is 4£d ; 40’s, low crossbreds, Is ss; 44’s, medium, Is 7d; 50’s, halfbreds, Is lid; 66’s, quarter-breds, 2s IJd ; 60’s, Merinos, 2s 3d.
