THE HIGH COMMISSIONER’S REPORT. Wellington, Phis Day. The Department of Industries and Commerce has received the following cablegram from the High Commissioner dated London, 24th August The mutton market is very dull. Canterbury brands are quoted at 3f ( d to 3jd ; North Island brands are selling at 3sd and fifcl. The lamb market is weak and the demand still co/itiuues not quite so brisk. Heavy Canterbury brands are quoted at 4-Jd; other than Canterbury at 4jj-d. The beef market is steady at the price cabled last week. The butter market is firm and prices continue to advance, Danish is quoted at 122 s per cwt. The small supplies of New Zealand coming forward are selling at 112 s per cwt. A strong market exists for cheese, Canadian makes are selling at 61s per cwt. The hemp market is quiet, G.P.A.Q., Wellington, on spot is worth £34 per ton; distant deliveries £33 10s, £34 is asked for October December shipments. Manilla, fair, current, on spot, is quoted at £42 per ton.
